How We Report Overall Hospital Quality Ratings

The Five-Star Overall Hospital Quality Rating is a summary of multiple measures of quality into a single rating for each hospital based on data submitted to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and performance compared to hospitals nationally. This overall rating is based on how well a hospital performs across different areas of healthcare quality, such as treating heart attacks and pneumonia, readmission rates, safety of care, and patient experience.

The overall hospital quality ratings on CompareMaine cover the April 1, 2021 – March 31, 2022 reporting period and the star ratings are drawn from CMS’s Medicare Compare Website.
