What makes up the average payment?

The average payment reported on CompareMaine includes both what the commercial insurance plan pays and any member payments, including copayments, deductibles, etc. When more than one healthcare setting provides care, all costs are attributed to the healthcare setting with the largest portion of the payment. For example, a patient might have a CT scan performed at a hospital and have the scan interpreted by a healthcare provider at another healthcare setting. Since the fees for taking the CT scan are larger than the fees for interpreting the CT scan, the cost for the procedure gets attributed to the hospital where the CT scan was performed.
# encounters for this service or procedure were used to calculate the average payment the provider received.
